PediPERForm Learning Network
Primary Investigators: James A. Reagor, MPS, CCP, FPP Project Timeline: 2021-Present Background Few clinical registries exist to collect data regarding the practice of cardiopulmonary bypass and none exist which focus on specifically on congenital perfusion. The PERForm registry (adult perfusion registry) was established over a decade ago and is embedded in the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons and collaborates with the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology (AmSECT) for mutual endorsement and is focused on adult perfusion. Being the most robust perfusion registry in the United States, representatives from Cincinnati Children's and Children's of Colorado engaged principal actors in the PERForm registry to develop what we now call PediPERForm registry, the database component of the PediPERFrom Learning Network (PLN). Mission The mission of the PLN, in partnership with AmSECT and Cardiac Networks United, is to establish, maintain, and leverage a pediatric and congenital perfusion registry and facilitate the use of complementary databases to support quality assurance and improvement processes, as well as research, within the national and international pediatric and congenital perfusion community. AIM The global aim of PLN is to improve pediatric and congenital perfusion outcomes and value from the perspective of the patient, family, and medical team. This grant is intended to provide PLN with start-up funds to launch this important effort and ultimately grow into a self-sustaining operation to improve care for our patients. The software for participation in the registry is currently in development with a target of Spring 2021 roll out to our charter institutions. We have 10 initial centers committed to participating. As we move forward, centers will benefit from scientific review and opportunities to participate in quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives growing out of the data collected.
