Meet Cora
Tell us about your heart warrior!
Our daughter will be two years old in a few weeks. We discovered at our 20wk ultrasound she had “something wrong” with her heart. Our world felt over in that very second. She was diagnosed with a VSD and Coarctation of the Aorta as well as Heterotaxy. We’re so thankful for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital that allowed us to deliver her right there and they took wonderful care of her from birth, surgery, and post-op. Today she is a happy talkative sweetheart that knows no bounds!
We believe in sharing inspiring stories as a way to connect to the community. What has your experience been like since having a child with CHD?
As a CHD parent CHAoC has been a godsend. I’m so thankful to have a place to share with other parents and patients. It’s been wonderful finding other heart families when no one in our “village” has had this experience. I’ve been lucky enough to volunteer at the last two toy drives for the CICU and can’t put into words how much it meant to be a part of something that gives even a moment of joy to other families. We love the Heart & Sole walk and CICU toy drives! Both events are such a great way to give back while also getting to spend time with people in your shoes.
Do you have any advice to share with people just starting their journey with CHD?
These diagnoses are such a whirlwind. Please find time to take deep breaths and care for yourself. You should never be afraid to ask any and all questions to your medical staff and seek out groups like CHAoC to find people that understand what you’re going through.
